Ascension, Not A Departure: A Reflection

What must have been going through the minds of the disciples as they watched Jesus ascend into heaven? Was it fear, uncertainty, hope, or wonder? The ascension marks a turning point in the life of the Church. The disciples who once struggled with fear and confusion are transformed into joyful worshippers and courageous witnesses. Jesus’ instruction to remain in Jerusalem and wait for the Holy Spirit teaches us the importance of patience and dependence on God in our spiritual journey.

The ascension of Christ is not a departure into absence, but the beginning of the Church’s mission to the world. Jesus ascended, the Holy Spirit descended, and the Gospel spread across nations. As believers today, we are also called to be witnesses of the risen Christ in our homes, workplaces, churches, and communities through lives that reflect His love, truth, and grace.

May we continually seek understanding of God’s Word, wait faithfully upon His guidance, and live empowered by the Holy Spirit as joyful witnesses of Christ.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus Christ, teach us to understand Your Word and to wait faithfully upon You. Empower us through Your Holy Spirit to be faithful witnesses in our communities and in the world.  Amen.
