The Trinity: A Reflection

The doctrine of the Trinity is one of the foundational doctrines of the Christian faith. In it, God is One, yet revealed in Three Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The Bible reveals God in this threefold way from creation to redemption. In Genesis, we encounter God the Creator, the Spirit hovering over the waters, and God speaking creation into existence through His Word. Christians understand this “Word” through whom creation came into being as Christ Himself, as revealed in John 1:1–3.

In Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus commands His disciples to baptize “in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,” revealing both the unity and equality of the three Persons.

The Trinity is a relationship into which believers are invited. God exists in eternal love, unity, and communion, and through Christ we are welcomed into that divine fellowship. Through the work of the Trinity, creation came into orderly existence, purposeful and good.

Prayer: Blessed Trinity, thank You for creating us, redeeming us, and sustaining us. Help us to live as faithful disciples who reflect Your love and unity in the world. Strengthen Your Church in mission and guide us daily by Your Spirit. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
