Sunday’s Reflection: “The Echo of Grace” 

Jesus calls us, His followers, to live with radical mercy by rejecting a hyper-critical spirit and focusing on our own flaws before trying to correct others. If we pour out harsh judgment, anger, and criticism, that is the world we build for ourselves. But if we pour out forgiveness and generosity, God fills our lives with a “good measure, shaken together, running over.” It challenges the church to become a community known for its grace and uplifting others. 

This theme focuses on identity and discipleship. In today’s Gospel, God the Creator is merciful.  God is abounding in steadfast love.  In mercy He causes His sun to rise on the evil as well as the good. God sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.  God provides daily bread to all people, even those who hate Him and reject Him, even those who through false religion want to use Him for their own purposes. 

That mercy comes to all of us again this day through the holy Eucharist; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom as you receive Christ’s holy body and the cup that runs over with abounding love, His holy blood poured out for you for the forgiveness of sins.

Prayer: Holy God, we come together today as a community, asking You to shape our hearts. Your Word reminds us to be merciful, just as You are merciful to us. Wash away our pride and replace it with Your deep compassion. Enlighten our hearts to be generous with our forgiveness, love, and grace. May we find a safe place where people find mercy instead of judgment. We want to give freely so that Your blessings can pour out on us in a full, overflowing measure. Amen.
