Saint Michael and All Angels

The Feast of Saint Michael and All Angels is set apart in the Church to celebrate and give thanks for the ministry of angels, God’s heavenly messengers. Traditionally celebrated on September 29, we observe the feast today because Saint Michael is our patron saint, allowing us to celebrate together as a parish community. 

Saint Michael is mentioned several times in Scripture, particularly in Daniel 10:13, 21; 12:1; Jude 9; and Revelation 12:7–9. One of the most striking accounts of his ministry appears in Revelation 12, where Michael leads the heavenly host against the forces of evil: “Michael and his angels fought against the dragon… and they were defeated” (vv. 7–8). Michael is therefore portrayed as a defender and warrior, courageously standing against evil. Yet his strength is exercised under God’s authority. His ministry reminds us that the ultimate victory over evil belongs to God.

As we celebrate this feast, Michael’s example offers important lessons for our Christian life. We are called to exercise authority with humility, to stand courageously for what is right, and to use our strength and influence to protect and defend the weak and vulnerable. We encounter injustice, fear, hatred, temptation, and divisions in the world. As a church bearing Saint Michael’s name, how can we reflect the virtues his ministry: humility in service, courage in adversity, faithfulness to God, and strength in defending others?
