JESUS THE RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE: A REFLECTION
The last two weeks of Lent are traditionally known as Passiontide. During this period, our focus shifts more toward the sorrowful passion of Christ, which culminates in Good Friday and ultimately leads us to the joy of Resurrection morning on Easter.
Today’s Gospel is not simply about Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead. Rather, it points us forward to the greater reality of the resurrection, revealing Jesus’ divine identity as the Resurrection and the Life, the one who holds power over death. Our Old Testament reading from Ezekiel 37 echoes this message of hope. This prophecy foreshadows the mystery of resurrection and God’s power to bring life out of lifelessness.
When Jesus raised Lazarus, He also wept. In that moment, we see not only His power but also His compassion and humanity. Jesus enters human sorrow and grief; He identifies with our struggles and pains. His tears remind us that we are never alone in our suffering. Whatever “dry bones” we may face in our lives, Christ has the power to bring new life. As we continue our journey through Lent, we are invited to hold on to faith, trusting that the same Lord who called Lazarus from the tomb is still at work today, bringing hope, renewal, and life to all who believe in Him.
