Reflection: A Secret Mission, Public Revelation.
As a Pharisee and member of the Sanhedrin, Nicodemus could be risking his
reputation and status by seeking out Jesus hence, he resorted to a secret night meeting. Yet his willingness to move beyond hearsay shows intellectual honesty and spiritual hunger. He did not allow religious tensions and socio-political atmosphere to prevent him from investigating the truth personally.
A meeting held under the cover of darkness becomes a revelation that shines across centuries. The secrecy of the seeker becomes the stage for the universality of God’s love. What began as one man’s cautious inquiry unfolds into a message for the whole world: John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Just as Nicodemus moved from curiosity to encounter Jesus, Lent invites believers to move from surface faith to spiritual rebirth. The call to be “born again” is not merely theological language; it is an invitation to renewal, humility, and deeper union with Christ. Spiritual rebirth means stepping out of our own darkness, fear, pride, social pressure, and into the light of truth.
Prayer: May we be transformed into Christlikeness as we journey together with Him.
Amen!
